If fashion acts as a visual cue to communicate ideas and portray aspects of our personality; music, as the soundtrack to our lives, is an equally important ingredient in creating an environment and communicating a feeling. I am by no means a music buff, and though I love being introduced to new music and exposed to new genres and artists, I often need someone to guide me and point me along the right path. Which is why I am so lucky to have the boy, who, as a self-taught, self-proclaimed music aficionado and someone who has DJ’d, played, and written about music, is my personal music tour guide.

The Raveonettes, a Danish duo, are one such band that I’ve been introduced to and fallen in love with. Their latest album, In And Out Of Control, which officially comes out tomorrow but has been leaked on the internet for a while now, has been on my repeat ever since. The album has a bright, almost poppy sound to it, but the lyrics deal with darker material, creating a juxtaposition that is infectious, and seems appropriate for the changing of seasons. It’s the kind of music that you can play from start to finish, almost as one continuous track, but almost every song also stands alone as a single. But I’m not a music critic, so I recommend taking a listen tomorrow and enjoying it for yourself.

Beyond their addiction-inducing sound and lyrics, The Raveonettes have impeccable, retro-inspired style, and Sharin Foo is undeniably and almost eerily gorgeous, with her blunt blond bob and captivating eyes. Girl crush.

So the reason this post came about in the first place was because the boy and I journeyed up to College St. today, and between errands, wandered into Soundscapes, where he bought us tickets for the upcoming Raveonettes show, October 22 at Phoenix Concert Theatre. It will be my first time seeing them, and my first concert in awhile, so needless to say, I’m excited about the night out. Plus, it gives me an excuse to continue to listen to the album on repeat, so that I have the album memorized and can sing along obnoxiously with every single song. Yes, I am that girl.

Me, in 3D

This photo was done as a nod to the The Raveonettes’ last album, Lust Lust Lust, for which the album cover was rendered in 3D. Plus, it gave me an excuse to fiddle around in Photoshop. So grab your 3D glasses and check out the eye-popping effects!
