I always have my eyes out for inspirational lookbooks from other retailers and designers, and Planet Blue is consistently among my favourites. At Bicyclette we’ve been told that we have a bit of a west coast vibe, and I think that often comes through in our styling and tendencies towards bohemian pieces with an edge and a dash of glitz.

Needless to say, we’re loving this lookbook, entitled ‘White Hot’, specifically for the abundance of ivory lace, tangles of sparkly jewellery on both necks and arms, and shimmering makeup. This is what the Holidays are all about, am I right?

We have just received our first order from Nation LTD! They are a line of premium basics made in LA with soft fabrics and perfect silhouettes. It’s not always the most exciting thing to purchase a basic so we wanted to showcase various ways of starting simple and adding layers and accessories to spice things up. We picked three of our favourite pieces from the new line and layered them three different ways- and with the weather being so unpredictable it’s always a good thing to have a few extra layers to throw on or take off.

As we said in our trend report for fall, pattern mixing is all the craze on the runways and on the streets. We have been mixing and matching prints all around the shop, surprising ourselves with different combinations; polka dots under animal prints or stripes with floral. Sometimes it can be hard to imagine actually wearing some combinations in public so this blog shows some great examples of wearable pattern mixing, out on the streets. With a little creativity you can mix, match and layer all your graphic prints too!

With it being the last day of September, we figured we better launch this month’s lookbook before it’s too late, so we’re splitting the images between today and tomorrow, and we’ve also posted a behind the scenes teaser video as well, which is a first for us.

Full of layered textures, chunky knits and dashes of hot pink, allow me to introduce you to our September lookbook!

We received three new printed dresses from Charlie Jade, and with the temperature dropping, were inspired to get our layer on and play with different combinations. It’s easy to fall into a rut of the familiar denim and knits, so we wanted to showcase a number of ways that you can still wear your favourite dresses and make them more season appropriate. With a lot of our knits in greys and neutrals, we wanted to feature the perfect pop of colour in each outfit, which is the perfect time to play with prints.

Start with a printed dress. Layer a bright coloured blouse. Toss on a chunky cropped knit. Add a structured purse and a unique necklace.

Start with a patterned maxi dress. Layer a leopard print sweater over. Throw on a cargo jacket. Grab your Fall satchel and printed flats.

Start with a 70s inspired shirt dress. Layer a striped basic over top. Finish with a crochet knit vest. Belt and accessorize with your favourite watch.

A couple of months ago we started ‘Styling Sessions’, a feature which was meant to become a regular on the blog, but unfortunately was forgotten… until now! (Summer’s been busy, we apologize). But we’re back with a vengeance, styling a gorgeous Heather charcoal grey maxi dress, which appears simple but offers so many layering options that we’re convinced it’s one of Fall’s best styles.

We knew we wanted to glam it up for one of the outfits, but still keep it simple and let the dress speak for itself. Et voila - a sequin sash, antique gold necklace (Eden) and snakeskin clutch

Layering knits is one of our favourite things about Fall, and this cropped style from Covet is just about perfect for every day dressing. Add a silk mix tie-dye scarf (ScarfParty) and leather trimmed clutch (Scout & Catalogue) for that pop of colour and print

The perfect graphic tee is a Bicyclette staple, and we love this pastel-hued style from Something Else layered over the maxi for an unexpected mix. A few accessories, such as the leather satchel (Scout & Catalogue) and the stacked necklace (Dolorous) add personality and a little edge

Biko’s first ever lookbook was recently launched, and we’re swooning over the gorgeous images and the new Fall collection of jewellery. We’ll be receiving our order at the shop in the next few weeks and are not-so-patiently biding our time by picking out our favourite pieces.

We are implementing a new feature on the blog to highlight how we would style certain items in the shop several different ways. We just received our first shipment from a new label that we are carrying at Bicyclette called Groceries. Groceries has some amazing basic pieces that are made of 100% Certified Organic Cotton. This white tee made by Groceries is priced at $48 and has a cool unique hem line. Not only would it look amazing with simple skinny jeans and a great necklace, but we styled it with 3 very different looks to show how a little bit of layering can turn a basic tee into such statement piece.

We were pleased to see the new Summer 2011 Edition of Off The Map because it included an editorial featuring all merchandise from Bicyclette!  We love how they styled our favourite summer pieces, accessorized with jewellery from Lauren Elan Collections and Biko! The shots look absolutely beautiful and we couldn’t be happier!
