When searching for styling inspiration, one of my favourite ways to put together an outfit is by taking a street style shot, picking out the key elements that give the look that certain je ne sais quoi, and then using those to inspire my own ensemble. For today’s outfit post, that’s exactly what we did, incorporating some brand new pieces from Maison Scotch (star tank, sunglasses tee) and Ladakh (sequin skirt) to bring in those key elements in a different way.
We’re planning a little last minute photo shoot this weekend for the Holidays and New Years Eve, so I thought I would share my inspiration board as I gather ideas and put together the theme. It’s looking like it’ll be a glam 60s “it girl” feel with a slightly disheveled quality and of course a dose of sparkle. Think sequin mini dresses and tangled, layered jewellery.

I always have my eyes out for inspirational lookbooks from other retailers and designers, and Planet Blue is consistently among my favourites. At Bicyclette we’ve been told that we have a bit of a west coast vibe, and I think that often comes through in our styling and tendencies towards bohemian pieces with an edge and a dash of glitz.
Needless to say, we’re loving this lookbook, entitled ‘White Hot’, specifically for the abundance of ivory lace, tangles of sparkly jewellery on both necks and arms, and shimmering makeup. This is what the Holidays are all about, am I right?

Surprise deliveries are quite possibly the best kind, especially when they arrive on Friday and contain goodies from Ban.do and Banter Banner, with lots of bright colours and sparkly textures. There’s no better way to end the work week and welcome the weekend than with hot pink and sequins! We decided to take this opportunity to start making over the store little by little, focusing today on the vanity area, which will be the first of many display changes. With the Holiday season around the corner, you can expect lots of magic happening at Bicyclette in the near future!
When we totally revamp a display, we always start with a completely blank canvas (0r in this case, tabletop), building up and slowly adding various props and pieces until we’re happy with the whole set up. So for this post, we decided to photograph it in the same way, so you can see the process from start to finish.
Our counter was literally covered with all of the new items that we wanted to display. Beautiful chaos!

It’s definitely Fall outside and things are transitioning inside Bicyclette as well with fall shipments arriving and more details popping up daily. Wildfox has done it again, introducing their White Label for Spring ’11, which Kimberley Gordon describes as “a touch more hippy, pulling inspiration from Jane Birkin, but still incorporating the royal family with mostly sequined graphics, gold buttons, griffins, and Military, floor length dresses.” Remember the luxe printed and sequined sweaters from Fall ’10 that Wildfox did (here and here)? Think of this line as an extension of that style, more more detailing and more sophistication.
