A few favourites from thr Wildfox Summer ’12 lookbook, ‘Sirene’.

“We all wish we were part of a fairy tale, some magical creature in some great love story.
A little mermaid with pearls in her long pink hair gliding through the warm salty water, in love with some beautiful sailor who she sees on a ship, handsome brown eyes and a different world. Our lives are more similar to fairy tales than we think, and everywhere around us there is magic. White sand that glitters in the sun and gets stuck like diamonds to your skin, sugarcane fields under the clouds that taste sweet in the rain, running barefoot on the hot pavement to meet a boy in town, long days of summer where the moon comes out along with the sun.”

Surprise deliveries are quite possibly the best kind, especially when they arrive on Friday and contain goodies from Ban.do and Banter Banner, with lots of bright colours and sparkly textures. There’s no better way to end the work week and welcome the weekend than with hot pink and sequins! We decided to take this opportunity to start making over the store little by little, focusing today on the vanity area, which will be the first of many display changes. With the Holiday season around the corner, you can expect lots of magic happening at Bicyclette in the near future!

When we totally revamp a display, we always start with a completely blank canvas (0r in this case, tabletop), building up and slowly adding various props and pieces until we’re happy with the whole set up. So for this post, we decided to photograph it in the same way, so you can see the process from start to finish.

Our counter was literally covered with all of the new items that we wanted to display. Beautiful chaos!

A naked table, ready to be dressed up and accessorized.

We started with the 'Good Times' banner and a mix of pom poms to frame the area.

Strategically placing items. It's an art, really.

Lots of hot pink accents and a focus on headwear from Ban.do, with a healthy dose of bows, hearts, gold and sequins thrown into the mix.

The gold banner, in all it's glory. (Ps. The banners are only $10 and we have 6 options - a steal and a perfect gift!)

Brightly coloured rosettes ('Wild At Heart' + 'Unforgettable'), and more headbands in our favourite hot pink suitcase.

Gold sequins, delicate metallic lace + hot pink rhinestones.

Gold leather turban + more rosette options.

Pom poms, gold safari animals + hints of sparkle.

Ban.do's signature sequins hearts, perfect on a lapel, scarf, or in your hair.

Gold 'love' barrettes.

Sequin scarf turban and our lovely Tocca lineup.

Can't go wrong with red + pink sequins hearts, the perfect accessory.

Sequin hair clips in a gold or multicoloured variety.

Our favourite banner, 'Magic Surrounds', perfectly offset by the brick wall.

With it being the last day of September, we figured we better launch this month’s lookbook before it’s too late, so we’re splitting the images between today and tomorrow, and we’ve also posted a behind the scenes teaser video as well, which is a first for us.

Full of layered textures, chunky knits and dashes of hot pink, allow me to introduce you to our September lookbook!

This past weekend we took to the woods and shot our September lookbook, with an obvious affinity for layered, slouchy knits, and pops of hot pink that are quickly becoming a Bicyclette signature. And because I know everyone loves a good teaser, here are a few shots we took from the morning.

Special thanks to Sian (our photographer extraordinaire, who matched the styling perfectly with her leopard print top and pink-tipped hair), Emily (our gorgeous model and Bicyclette shop girl, who is always such a pleasure to work with and shoot), and Danielle (who brought along some new hand dyed silk pieces from her Denj collection, and lent her impeccable styling expertise and skill to the shoot). I’m so lucky to have such amazing people to collaborate with.

The lookbook should be launching within the week, and we’re also working on a little video treat to accompany it. ‘Til then!

The other day I posted photos of our new glittery window display, but I left out the outfit detail shots so as not to overwhelm you. I know that sometimes too many pretty photos can just be too much excitement for one post. We’ve been receiving our Fall deliveries over the past couple of weeks and will continue to into September, and the more we unpack the more I fall in love with the transitional pieces and my excitement for Fall layering increases. We have gorgeous knits from Covet and One Teaspoon, fun printed pieces from Something Else (which is quickly becoming a favourite new line), and a collection of various accessories to top it all off. Bring on the change of seasons!

Our window got a makeover yesterday, with a bit of a mismatched theme of back to school meets early Fall meets glitter girl fantasy. Complete with gold glittered apples, handwritten notes in hot pink sharpie, stacks of old books, and of course a selection of our new Fall merchandise. Pretty sure there’s no better way to usher in a new season …

This season seems to be the summer of nails, and it’s been fun experimenting with new colours and watching everyone get creative with DIY options. With the shop now carrying a wide array of Butter London, we’ve been eager to keep up, and between Emma and I, we probably showcase at least 6-8 different nail colours a week. When we came across Emily’s ‘Mermaid Nails‘ on Cupcakes and Cashmere, all of our dreams came true and we raced out to find the Martha Stewart glitter she used. Truth be told, we’d been looking for an excuse to purchase the superfine glitter, and this was the perfect one.

And so I share with you our version of the glitter tipped nails, in which we followed the instructions on Cupcakes and Cashmere, using a hot pink nail polish and adding bubblegum glitter to the tip of our ring finger only (one nail trend we’re loving right now). Needless to say, we’re pretty smitten, and I think our nails will be glitter adorned from now on.

It’s pretty evident I have a thing for tea cups, as they’re scattered throughout the shop and my collection is always growing, and I’ve also started to notice an increasing attraction to all things gold, especially in decor and displays. So it is with those two observations (and my obvious eternal love for all things glitter), that I share a couple of photos today that are a perfect representation of my current mood.

Last week we did some serious remerchandising in the shop, designing a few new displays and rearranging everything for a fresh new perspective. Sometimes it feels so good to do a complete overhaul and start from scratch, and with the new props that I had found at the antique market, it was the perfect time. I’ve been really drawn to pale blushes, warm ivories and anything with lacy details, so that’s where this display began, and it evolved into a girly showcase of all things feminine. Nothing wrong with that! Since these photos were taken last week, there have been a lot of changes, as items sell out and pieces are rearranged, but the idea is still the same.

The wooden crate was completely rearranged, showcasing the antique radio (which I'm still in love with), the mini Eiffel tower and a new silver patterned teacup. Added glitter hangers dangling from the bottom, which are perfect for displaying jewellery.

Pretty indicative of the colour palette we're craving right now. Lots of texture and layering of neutrals with warm accents.

Lace on lace, adorned with a fabric flower (which seems to go with everything). Whimsical and shamelessly feminine.

Layering tanks and a new (vintage) travel case. Pretty nail colours and bow details.

More lace, vintage pumps and other accessories to finish off any ensemble.

Our favourite woven satchel from Deux Lux, in a warm neutral hue that's perfect for the summer.
