Today’s outfit is brought to you by a little inspiration courtesy of Sterling Style and Atlantic-Pacific, via coco+kelly, who did a little fashion feature that showcased how these lovely ladies mixed gingham + military + piles of jewels. How can you not love that?

I have no gingham in the shop currently (I might add it to the “to buy” list now though), so I improvised and came up with an inspired look that I’m pretty happy with. (Side note: those of you who know me, or notice what I wear on a daily basis, will note that my outfits are often direct knock-offs of those that I’ve put on mannequins. Thus, each of these items have since made their way into my personal closet. It’s dangerous).

The silk printed romper is by Whitney Eve (yes, that Whitney, from The City), and I can't get over the gorgeous charcoal colour offset with the whimsical feather print. The charcoal open-knit sweater is by Motel, and is one of our favourite layering pieces, with its cropped silhouette and versatility.

The flower isn't for sale, but you'll find them sprinkled all around the shop. Love the colour.

Necklace by Lauren Elan Collections, with hand-dyed silk (By DENJ). Love the infusion of colour that the silk brings to the piece, and of course that always-essential sparkle.

The cargo jacket is by Piko (a small LA line), and could be considered a staple for spring. Lightweight, perfect army green, and with the option to cinch the waist.

In other news, the shop is welcoming a shiny new guest this evening, so stay tuned for that. She’s very pretty and also practical, and we think we’ll all get along just fine.

The Holiday Pop-Up Shop kind of took precedence over the last little while, resulting in a delay of shooting new product and getting it up into the shop. So since we have some new MinkPink pieces that are begging to be shared, I figured the blog would be the perfect outlet.

Pieces have already started selling and there’s only a few in each style, so if there are any items you’re coveting, let us know.

Seneca Rising Brawner Dress, $168 / MinkPink Sunday Best Cape, $128

MinkPink Virtual Insanity Tee Dress, $120

MinkPink Overture Lace Dress, $118 / MinkPink Black Magic Sequin Blazer, $238

MinkPink Overture Lace Crop Top, $72 / Motel Rhona Polka Dot Shorts, $56

I think this may just be my favourite outfit yet. A cargo jacket with sequins, studs and distressed detailing paired with a satin pleated skirt that is so very ready for all your Holiday dressing needs. For a more feminine look, the skirt is accented with lace and tangled jewellery (a Bicyclette favourite), but I’m also thinking this would be perfect with a cropped chunky knit that would contrast beautifully with the satin.

With only two days left (!) until Gifted and Glam, and the recent addition of the Holiday Night Market as well, the studio is currently a flurry of activity as I transform and create a few new props and make sure everything is in order for the weekend.

A slinky black sweater dress with gold beading is perfect paired with a velvet blazer and a fur scarf for a cozy ensemble. Loving the longer length and cap sleeves of the dress, which make the layering possibilities endless. The blazer is updated with a subtly crushed velvet finish, gorgeous long silhouette and ruched sleeves. A favourite of the season.

Last week I was finally able to take a look at the Motel Spring ’11 line for Bicyclette. Along with the standard skintight body-con dresses that the label has become known for (including neon metallics, which I decided to pass on), the collection had an obvious 70s bohemian vibe, with oversized florals, faded denim, pleating and easy knits.

Below are a few images from the look book, featuring a few (but not all) of the pieces that were bought for the shop, and some that were not, but that give you a sense of the overall feel of the Spring line.

Favourite piece? The slouchy, cropped, open-knit sweater. Bought in two colours.

Next week I have a few appointments to book more lines, and since it’s great to get people’s input and you seem to enjoy being part of the buying process, I thought I would show you the Motel look book and see what you have to say about it. Plus, I know everyone like to look at photo shoots, and this one in particular has some interesting elements …

Known for their little dresses that tend to be body-conscious and fairly mini in length, Motel does prints extremely well, and their futuristic details make every piece an interesting one. Personally, I like them as layering pieces, with tights, a blazer and boots for winter, and a tangle of jewellery to set it off.

Now it’s your turn: Favourite styles from this shoot? What intrigues you and what turns you away?

I love prints and embellishment. So when I came across Motel, I was automatically drawn to their bold graphics, intricate detailing and simple shapes. Specializing in dresses with simple silhouettes that hug you in all the right places and play with proportions, they have a cohesive collection that presents pieces that are perfect for layering and adding that ‘je ne sais quoi’ to any outfit. These are statement pieces, not for the timid.
