We’re planning a little last minute photo shoot this weekend for the Holidays and New Years Eve, so I thought I would share my inspiration board as I gather ideas and put together the theme. It’s looking like it’ll be a glam 60s “it girl” feel with a slightly disheveled quality and of course a dose of sparkle. Think sequin mini dresses and tangled, layered jewellery.

Continuing on with this week’s theme of supporting community and giving back, we’ve decided to run our first annual coat drive this weekend at the shop. Here’s how it works: bring in a women’s winter coat to be donated to our local salvation army, and you’ll receive 20% off at the shop all weekend. This will be our only sale prior to Christmas, so it’s the perfect opportunity to support your community and get a little shopping in, whether for that perfect Holiday party outfit or a gift for that special someone . After many hours planning, shooting and editing we’re excited to present you with our first annual Holiday Gift Guide! We’ve chosen some of our favourite pieces in the shop that we believe would make perfect gifts, focusing especially on our local designers, and laid them out in a fun spread to make composing a wishlist and shopping for that special someone that much easier for you. And because we’re still receiving new items that weren’t able to meet the deadline for the guide, we’ll be posting additional items on the blog, Twitter and Facebook for the next few weeks as well.
Last week I linked to a post on A Beautiful Mess about supporting small businesses, and it really spoke to me, both as a consumer and a retailer. It’s so important to support local and independent businesses and designers, especially at this time of year, which is one of the reasons we wanted to put together this guide and really showcase our local designers, which has always been an important element of Bicyclette. It’s not easy being “the little guy”, so the more we can collaborate and work together with those in our community, the better.

I always have my eyes out for inspirational lookbooks from other retailers and designers, and Planet Blue is consistently among my favourites. At Bicyclette we’ve been told that we have a bit of a west coast vibe, and I think that often comes through in our styling and tendencies towards bohemian pieces with an edge and a dash of glitz.
Needless to say, we’re loving this lookbook, entitled ‘White Hot’, specifically for the abundance of ivory lace, tangles of sparkly jewellery on both necks and arms, and shimmering makeup. This is what the Holidays are all about, am I right?
