There comes a time in every season when it feels like we’re constantly unpacking new merchandise, and the store begins to visually change with new colours, prints, textures and silhouettes. We decided to take advantage of the time of year and decided that it was the perfect opportunity to close the shop doors for a couple of days and embark on a little interior makeover.

With a newly exposed brick wall, many coats of paint and a few other visual updates, we’re officially ready for the seasonal change . Not to mention the new Fall merchandise that’s arriving daily…

If you follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, you already know that I (Paige) spent the past few days in LA, and probably got a sneak peek of some of the buying picks and trip snapshots that I’ve been posting. (Side note: Every time I embark on one of these trips I fall in love with my iPhone and it’s photo capabilities all over again. It makes documenting these mini trips such a breeze, and it’s fun to be able to share along the way!).

And so, without further introduction, I’ll let the photos do the talking.

We received three new printed dresses from Charlie Jade, and with the temperature dropping, were inspired to get our layer on and play with different combinations. It’s easy to fall into a rut of the familiar denim and knits, so we wanted to showcase a number of ways that you can still wear your favourite dresses and make them more season appropriate. With a lot of our knits in greys and neutrals, we wanted to feature the perfect pop of colour in each outfit, which is the perfect time to play with prints.

Start with a printed dress. Layer a bright coloured blouse. Toss on a chunky cropped knit. Add a structured purse and a unique necklace.

Start with a patterned maxi dress. Layer a leopard print sweater over. Throw on a cargo jacket. Grab your Fall satchel and printed flats.

Start with a 70s inspired shirt dress. Layer a striped basic over top. Finish with a crochet knit vest. Belt and accessorize with your favourite watch.

We always love a good lookbook, and we’ve been patiently waiting to see what Scout & Catalogue comes out with for their Fall collection so we can place an order for the shop. Staying true to their Mexican inspiration and featuring their signature pouches and scarves with pops of neon, we’re liking where this is headed.

This past weekend we took to the woods and shot our September lookbook, with an obvious affinity for layered, slouchy knits, and pops of hot pink that are quickly becoming a Bicyclette signature. And because I know everyone loves a good teaser, here are a few shots we took from the morning.

Special thanks to Sian (our photographer extraordinaire, who matched the styling perfectly with her leopard print top and pink-tipped hair), Emily (our gorgeous model and Bicyclette shop girl, who is always such a pleasure to work with and shoot), and Danielle (who brought along some new hand dyed silk pieces from her Denj collection, and lent her impeccable styling expertise and skill to the shoot). I’m so lucky to have such amazing people to collaborate with.

The lookbook should be launching within the week, and we’re also working on a little video treat to accompany it. ‘Til then!

With a lot of our customers heading back to school this week and an undeniable Fall chill in the air, it made sense to theme today’s outfit around the event and give our styling a little collegiate edge. Nothing says “back to school” like a crisp button up and cardigan combo, and this just-arrived knit, with it’s red and navy stripes and heart emblazoned coat of arms is pretty much perfect. Accessorize it with a slouchy leather satchel, pearl and bow headband for a feminine touch, and a stack of Biko friendship bracelets, and we’ve got an outfit that is classroom ready.

One of my favourite aspects of transitional dressing is layering, and one of my favourite pieces to do so with is a scarf. These past couple of days we’ve started to feel a chill in the air, providing a perfect opportunity to grab a scarf and get creative with our accessories. It was with this in mind that we decided to bring in a few pieces from Leigh & Luca for Fall. Each scarf is handwoven using the highest quality cashmeres, silks and cottons, and embellished with innovative hand embroidery, printing and flocking techniques. Every oversized scarf is meant to be worn in a number of different ways, and each print is exclusive to Leigh & Luca and created as part of limited editions. Plus, they use the most charming little illustrations and we love all the different ideas of how to wear them.

We received our collection of Tocca perfumes earlier this week, and with their pretty vintage-inspired bottles and sensual scents, they’ve been a welcome addition to the shop. We decided to do a little introduction for each of the “ladies” and put together an outfit that we think fits each of their unique personalities. The question is – which one are you?

Inspired by the playful and sensual beauty of Brigitte Bardot, this scent evokes the intoxicating aroma of Provence's spice markets

Inspired by the French novelist and libertine, Colette embodies the irresistible scent of a woman that lingers on the pillow long after she leaves

As impetuous and moody as a rebellious young Italian beauty, Stella attracts your senses

Inspired by tea time in Italy, Bianca lets you escape to a relaxing haven

Since we’re receiving a lot of new Fall stock right now and the past month or so has been pretty slow with the outfit posts, I figure it’s only fair that I keep the outfit posts coming.

Today we received Eryn Brinie and I had to restrain myself from letting out a squeal when it arrived. Buying for the shop is one of my favourite aspects of the job, but it’s also the hardest. Not only are you buying for over 6 months in the future, but there’s also a tendency to fall in love with items only to have to wait until you’re able to lay eyes on them again, let alone wear them. The ivory sweater below is one such piece, and in many ways it exemplifies what Bicyclette stands for. It’s essentially a simple sweater, in a gorgeous ivory hue with a simple silhouette, but the beauty is in the detail: the feminine tulle hemmed camisole that comes layered under the sweater. Not only does it add that essential  je ne said quoi to the piece, but because it is separate from the sweater itself, it lends itself to a world of layering possibilities with other items. And that’s what I call true love.

The other day I posted photos of our new glittery window display, but I left out the outfit detail shots so as not to overwhelm you. I know that sometimes too many pretty photos can just be too much excitement for one post. We’ve been receiving our Fall deliveries over the past couple of weeks and will continue to into September, and the more we unpack the more I fall in love with the transitional pieces and my excitement for Fall layering increases. We have gorgeous knits from Covet and One Teaspoon, fun printed pieces from Something Else (which is quickly becoming a favourite new line), and a collection of various accessories to top it all off. Bring on the change of seasons!
