This season seems to be the summer of nails, and it’s been fun experimenting with new colours and watching everyone get creative with DIY options. With the shop now carrying a wide array of Butter London, we’ve been eager to keep up, and between Emma and I, we probably showcase at least 6-8 different nail colours a week. When we came across Emily’s ‘Mermaid Nails‘ on Cupcakes and Cashmere, all of our dreams came true and we raced out to find the Martha Stewart glitter she used. Truth be told, we’d been looking for an excuse to purchase the superfine glitter, and this was the perfect one.

And so I share with you our version of the glitter tipped nails, in which we followed the instructions on Cupcakes and Cashmere, using a hot pink nail polish and adding bubblegum glitter to the tip of our ring finger only (one nail trend we’re loving right now). Needless to say, we’re pretty smitten, and I think our nails will be glitter adorned from now on.

It’s hard to keep updated with all in the new changes that are constantly happening in the shop, but I’m finding that Instagram is such a good way to capture moments and certain display features before they are switched or items are purchased.

Ever since we saw this DIY blog post on Just B, we have been craving our very own Newspaper Nails. In classic Bicyclette Girl fashion, both Emily and I came into work today with matching turquoise, freshly painted nails. We knew this was the perfect opportunity to test out these funky printed nails.

We ran to the closest pharmacy store to pick up some Rubbing Alcohol and after following all the steps from our favourite DIY blog (Just B), we have completed our first attempt at newspaper nails!

Emma

As promised, we put together an outfit post with our new DIY’d colour block pouch, and I’m thinking this might be one of my favourite yet. I’m thinking this outfit would be pretty perfect for a summer event or even a wedding, with the textural neutrals and that dash of hot pink.

It's all in the details: Tangled Lauren Elan sparkly necklace, stacked Eden crystal rings, and retro-inspired sunnies

Nyx matte finish lip gloss and Butter London smoky gunmetal polish

BLVD ivory lace dress with raw edges and a pink flower adorning the chest

A summer layering essential: Denj hand-dyed silk scarf

Vintage pink pumps with a scalloped lace hemline

So we’ve decided to implement a new weekly feature on the Bicyclette blog, as a result of our ever-expanding DIY to-do list and a craving for some crafty projects. And of course we’ll be sharing the results with you! We’re still in the testing phase, really, but right now it’s looking like this will be a Friday feature, and we’re titling it “From the Workshop”. As always, we’re open to suggestions and would love to hear your feedback.

For our first post, Emma and I both knew exactly what we wanted to try out, after seeing the colour block pouch DIY on Just B. So we headed to American Apparel and our local craft store to load up supplies and started painting away. We followed these directions, switching out orange for neon pink, and we’re both thrilled with the results.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the finished product, and to see how we’re thinking of styling it.

It’s been a long weekend at the shop, with late nights and early mornings and a few new changes and DIY projects implemented, but I couldn’t be happier with the update. I found an old crate a few weeks ago at Smash in The Junction, and have been itching to put it to use as a display shelf, which we finally were able to do, as well as putting up the third fitting room curtain and adding a few details in there to make the shopping experience that much better. I’m loving that the shop is such an ongoing project.

The new crate, which replaced the mirror that was hanging there. Love the rustic element it brings and the height it adds

Whitewashed inside, featuring a few key accessories.

Tiny glass case, customized with Bicyclette's textured wallpaper and housing new Lauren Elan earrings

Blue and orange-red, a pretty perfect combination featuring a few of the new Butter London polishes

Pink, gold and tiny florals, for when you need a touch of feminine

And a few of our favourite brights, offset by the most perfect neutral tones

I’ve been crushing on Edison lightbulbs for awhile now, and upon coming across these metallic dipped beauties, I’m thinking that I could DIY an interesting display/installation with a grouping of them. The specifics escape me for now, but what do you think? Love the different finishes and shapes.

Oh, and remember the diamond lights? Still patiently waiting until they’re restocked. I’m determined that I need them in my life, regardless of how long it takes.

Old-school friendship bracelets have started popping up recently on some of my favourite fashion blogs (especially this post from Oracle Fox), and I must say, I’m fallen victim to the charm and the DIY potential. These beauties, from  NYC line Frieda and Nellie, is a new twist on the classic, and a perfect way to add some sparkle and grown-up glam to the style. Loving the juxtaposition of the simple embroidery thread with the vintage rhinestones, and of course the fact that each piece is one-of-a-kind.

We’re picturing them layered with a tangle of other bracelets and bangles, and the styling potentials are endless.

I just had to post this picture, from A Beautiful Mess, because it’s pretty much the perfect inspiration and hint at two projects I’ve been working on today for shop displays. Hopefully done and photographed tomorrow! But for now, any guesses?

A few interior images that are inspiring me right now, and getting me oh-so-excited to continue collecting display props for the shop. I have so many ideas right now of what I want to do with the space and I can’t wait to continue getting creative with it.
