We’re always trying to think of creative ways to wear our favourite pieces, giving us the opportunity to play with different styles and also justifying a purchase. So we decided to take one of our favourite layering pieces, the For Love & Lemons Matinee dress (first seen in our April lookbook), and style it three different ways. The great thing about this dress is that the silhouette is simple but the crochet trim gives it a special edge, and because it’s white, you can really use any colour palette when creating the look.

MONDAY MUSE . THE CLARINS SISTERS

The four granddaughters of Jacques Courtin-Clarins, founder of the Clarins skincare company, these beauties have been popping up in the front tow at fashion week and on street-style blogs alike, flaunting their eclectic ensembles and proving that personal style is all about being unique and having fun with fashion. The two sets of sisters, often appearing as a group or in pairs, have a tendency towards bold pairings and bright colours, and do not shy away from a loud print or interestingly layered pieced. We love how they mix high-end with a downtown edge, and give current trends their own, individual spin.

FROM THE STUDIO . PAINTED BRACELETS

With our love for all things DIY and an obsession with arm parties, we’ve been brainstorming ideas and playing around with some of our own styles. Inspired by high-end jewellery favourites Dannijo and Tom Binns (among others), we’ve been drawn towards the mix of bright colours with clear crystals, and tried our hand at painting a few bracelets. Next up? Necklaces!

A few months ago we posted about the neon skinny belts that we were about to receive, and how excited we were to start layering them over our chunky knits and ease into transitional dressing with a pop of colour. Now, with warmer weather upon us and summer styles on our radar, we’re dreaming up new ways to wear our neon and fully embracing the styling potential. Colourblocked with other brights, with a denim-on-denim ensemble, breaking up an all black outfit, or with a printed dress (and a healthy dose of sunshine), the options are endless!

We’ve decided that rather than let the back-and-forth weather get us down, we would take advantage of the opportunity and start styling some of our favourite spring and summer pieces in creative ways, so that once the temperatures cooperate, we’ll have an arsenal of inspired outfits.

First up is the denim short: an easy summer staple with countless styling options. This is probably one of the most worn items in my closet, as I love the versatility and comfort, as well as that distressed chic vibe they have. The key is finding the perfect denim short for you (cuffed? frayed? coloured? embellished?), and then having fun mixing and matching with the other items in your closet. Here are a few of our favourite ways to wear them.

1 // A fun way to play with the denim-on-denim trend by pairing a bright coloured short with a classic denim button-up (another layering staple). Add a flowy printed top and accessories with a little sparkle, and this is a look that you could dress up and take from day to night

2 // We love the look of cuffed denim shorts paired with a summer knit for a great casual, transitional look. This outfit has a preppy vibe, but the tie dye scarf and neon green accents infuse a little quirkiness into it and make it the perfect ensemble for running around the city

3 // We’re always drawn to vintage-style pieces and the distressed band tee felt like a classic pairing with the denim shorts. The blazer gives the outfit a more put-together quality, while the bright colours are a great way to liven it up and have some fun accenting the patterned pockets of this particular pair of shorts

Another exciting week in the deliveries department, with a huge order from Amsterdam line Maison Scotch that just arrived on our doorstep. Our favourite thing in the box? Neon lace bralettes and bandeaus, which are quite possibly the perfect summer accessory. Think layered under sheer blouses, peeking out under low cut necklines, and adding that perfect pop of colour to any ensemble.

With today’s weather teasing us with a taste of summer, Queen West feels alive again, and it’s hard to not be swept away by the excitement of spring dressing. Light layers, breezy silhouettes and bare legs were all in order as we styled today’s outfits, and our new Scout & Catalogue clutches were the perfect accessories to top it off.

One of the things I love most about visual merchandising is the ability to tell a story through a display and how altering the smallest detail can completely transform it. It’s been fun to play with all the bright colours, quirky prints and variety of textures as we liven up the shop for spring, rearranging the racks into new colour stories, styling mannequins to represent the new trends and collections, and creating table top displays that revolve around a specific theme or inspiration.

A few of our favourite details this week include bold colour pairings, contrasting textures, unexpected patterns, and gold details throughout the shop.
