Heading to LA for a grand total of 24 hours, picking out new merchandise for the shop and soaking up as much sunshine as I can in the short amount of time I’m there. Follow me on Twitter for a play-by-play, photos included.
See you tomorrow, Toronto.

Just as I’m starting to crave Fall weather and wardrobe transitions, the Spring ’11 lookbooks start surfacing, tempting us with looks that we won’t be able to wear until 6 months from now. Working in this industry always throws your head for a bit of a spin and it’s hard to live and dress in the now and focus on what’s available and wearable in the present.
But don’t let that fool you, there’s also something incredibly exciting about booking lines so early and then having to wait so long, almost forgetting what awaits when you open those boxes come the following season. Seneca Rising is definitely a favourite, with it’s clever layering pieces, raw edges, subtle details, and inspired prints and patterns, and when I received the Spring ’11 lookbook, entitled “Valley of the Dolls”, I knew I was in for a treat.
The best part? I haven’t put in my order yet, so if something catches your eye, this is your chance to share your opinion and help in the buying process. Enjoy!
For behind the scenes shots, wander over to the Seneca Rising blog.
And also, don’t forget to check out Shop Bicyclette for two favourite pieces from the Summer ’10 collection, the Danny Dress and the Ella Vest. Even better? They’re both on sale!
Time for another This vs. That! For today’s edition, we’re looking at cardigans, as my mind is starting to turn towards fall wardrobes and layering despite the heat wave we’ve been experiencing. Crazy, I know, but welcome to the world of retail, where you’re constantly focused on future seasons. This time, the situation is a little different: I’m putting together a Bicyclette order for immediate Fall delivery, and both of the styles below are possible contenders.
Style number one is a graphic leopard print, has a long body and slightly oversized fit. It’s grey, but also comes in a cream colour. I’m envisioning it as the topper to simple, layered outfits and all-black ensembles with piles of jewellery to add that bit of edge.
The second option has an oh-so-precious floral print and a lace panel inset at the neckline. Again, it’s shown in grey but also comes in cream, and is a more traditional cardigan cut with a slightly shorter body. I can see this layered over oversized graphic tees and skinnies to add a little feminine vintage nostalgia, or done up with a voluminous skirt for some 50s appeal.
So now it’s your turn, once again – what are your opinions on each and what would you like to see in the shop? Leave it in the comments!
Looking for a little bit of input as to what everyone thinks of these Fall Wildfox pieces. I’m looking at three styles, all long sweaters that are perfect worn oversized as a dress and for layering in the cooler months. I know it’s hard to think ahead and everyone’s excited to start wearing little dresses, not sweaters, but I’m just looking for a quick answer. They’re priced around $200 each, with the same quality and styling from Wildfox that we all know and love.
Would you buy? What’s your favourite? This is your chance to play bicyclette buyer!
As promised, and yes, a little late, here are the photos from day two in LA. The day was filled with lots of looking, choosing, trying to fill gaps and buying, but it was well worth it. I was on a hunt for perfect floral dresses, which surprisingly were hard to find, but I managed to pick out a few that I’m very exciting about. Oh, and the purses too. One black, drawstring style and a white fold-over chain strap with metal detailing, which are both shown below, as well as a dove grey oversized tote with exposed zipper detailing.
Now, the waiting game begins …
Yesterday was day one of LA, and after all was said and done, I was exhausted. We left super early yesterday morning so it was a long day, and thus we spent only a half day looking at merchandise. But, regardless, I managed to find some bicyclette gems, and thanks to my mother/ traveling companion/ photographer extraordinaire, I have photos to share!
We’re heading back to do some more buying today, this time with a full night’s rest under our belts, so it should be a productive day. LA day two, here I come!
Last night I celebrated my finishing of school and launching of bicyclette with friends and family and let me tell you, it was the perfect party. I hoped to be able to share photos (it had a pink theme, which made for some fun outfit choices) today, but I’m still waiting to receive them, so you’ll have to wait for a few more days.
Tomorrow I leave for a quick trip to LA to do some more buying for the store, so it’s been a hectic weekend of planning and preparation, but I’m quite excited for the mini-getaway, let alone the opportunity to pick out more product for the launch. I’ll be blogging from there, and trying to take lots of photos to share, courtesy of my always-handy iPhone.
I’ve packed only dresses and sandals, and am looking forward to the sun and a visit to the ocean. West coast dreaming, that’s for sure.
Any styles/shapes/colour/prints/patterns you’re craving and just can’t live without? I’ll keep my eyes out, so give me any special requests you can think of …
