This season seems to be the summer of nails, and it’s been fun experimenting with new colours and watching everyone get creative with DIY options. With the shop now carrying a wide array of Butter London, we’ve been eager to keep up, and between Emma and I, we probably showcase at least 6-8 different nail colours a week. When we came across Emily’s ‘Mermaid Nails‘ on Cupcakes and Cashmere, all of our dreams came true and we raced out to find the Martha Stewart glitter she used. Truth be told, we’d been looking for an excuse to purchase the superfine glitter, and this was the perfect one.
And so I share with you our version of the glitter tipped nails, in which we followed the instructions on Cupcakes and Cashmere, using a hot pink nail polish and adding bubblegum glitter to the tip of our ring finger only (one nail trend we’re loving right now). Needless to say, we’re pretty smitten, and I think our nails will be glitter adorned from now on.

We’ve been (not so) patiently waiting for our Butter London delivery, and today we finally received the first of two orders, with lots of bright colours to fulfill all of your summer nail needs.
Here’s a peek of the new colours!

Pillar Box Red & Yummy Mummy

Teddy Girl, Primrose Hill Picnic, Macbeth & Blowing Raspberries

Cheeky Chops & Diamond Geezer

Dosh, Thames, Artful Dodger & Royal Navy
As promised, we put together an outfit post with our new DIY’d colour block pouch, and I’m thinking this might be one of my favourite yet. I’m thinking this outfit would be pretty perfect for a summer event or even a wedding, with the textural neutrals and that dash of hot pink.

It's all in the details: Tangled Lauren Elan sparkly necklace, stacked Eden crystal rings, and retro-inspired sunnies

Nyx matte finish lip gloss and Butter London smoky gunmetal polish

BLVD ivory lace dress with raw edges and a pink flower adorning the chest

A summer layering essential: Denj hand-dyed silk scarf

Vintage pink pumps with a scalloped lace hemline
Bicyclette is pleased to welcome our newest (and first, I suppose) team member, Emma! She’ll be interning with us over the summer, so you’ll be hearing plenty from her online and seeing her in the shop over the next few months. We couldn’t be more excited to have her on board.
Where do you go to school, and what for?
I go to Ryerson University for Retail Management. I am heading into my fourth (and last) year next fall!
Favourite Toronto neighbourhood?
Queen West! On a beautiful, summer day it’s so fun to walk around, do some shopping, and have lunch on a patio.
Wardrobe staples?
This winter I have lived in skinny jeans tucked in to beat-up motorcycle boots and blouses on top. I am so looking forward to ‘bare-leg weather’ and busting out some summer dresses and wedges!
What are you coveting for SS ’11 ?
I’m coveting military style jackets paired with girly dresses. I love adding printed scarfs to absolutely everything because it can totally change up a look. Also, I’m pretty excited to bring back the high-waisted wide leg jean, they can be so flattering!
What do you admire about Bicyclette?
I love that you can come into Bicyclette and grab unique, affordable pieces that are difficult to find in Toronto. I am a super girly-girl so I obviously love the whole ‘Street style meets Fairytale’ concept and anything glittery. I also love how Bicyclette supports local designers such as Lauren Elan jewellery and ScarfParty scarves!
Favourite style blog?
The very first blog that I started reading years ago was The Sartorialist, and it is definitely still a favourite of mine. My new favourite blog is Sterling Style. I love her style and how she combines fashion and fitness as they are both passions of mine.
Style icons?
My ultimate style icon is Audrey Hepburn. I have had a serious obsession with Audrey since I was a little girl, and I’m currently reading her biography.
I also love Olivia Palermo’s style. She is able to combine high-end designer pieces with more affordable items and she always looks amazing!
Top 3 items currently at Bicyclette?
1) Evil Twin Tank – This black tank has an amazing lace back which looks amazing layered over something bright.
2) Beige James Jeans – This is an awesome jean colour for spring/summer and looks super cute when its cuffed at the bottom.
3) Floral ScarfParty Scarf – This is such a great floral print and it can be worn with everything since the colours are all fairly neutral.

Event though I’m very much focused on the Holiday Pop-Up Shop, I’ve also started thinking about Spring ’11 and what’s next for Bicyclette. This involves a lot of brainstorming, researching and random thoughts. One idea I’ve had, which has actually stemmed from the Holiday Pop-Up, is to bring in more small novelty items. If you look back at the original business plan for Bicyclette, there was a significant focus on mixing clothes with home and gift items to create more of a lifestyle brand, and I keep coming back to this idea.
I would love some feedback on this, and any thoughts and ideas you might have. I’ve already come up with two lines that I’m extremely interested in carrying, but am completely open to more. What would you like to see at Bicyclette in the future?
Butter London Nail Polish, who believes in “…Great Britain, Fashion and Rock and Roll.” The line uses no chemicals and comes in a delicious array of colours. With pretty nails being the perfect accessory to any outfit, we think the line is an ideal complement to Bicyclette’s offerings.
Smith’s Rosebud Balms are a cult staple for many (including me) and have the perfect vintage aesthetic that is so important to Bicyclette.
