A small collection of images from around the shop today. Lots of new vignettes and displays and eye candy.

So we’ve decided to implement a new weekly feature on the Bicyclette blog, as a result of our ever-expanding DIY to-do list and a craving for some crafty projects. And of course we’ll be sharing the results with you! We’re still in the testing phase, really, but right now it’s looking like this will be a Friday feature, and we’re titling it “From the Workshop”. As always, we’re open to suggestions and would love to hear your feedback.

For our first post, Emma and I both knew exactly what we wanted to try out, after seeing the colour block pouch DIY on Just B. So we headed to American Apparel and our local craft store to load up supplies and started painting away. We followed these directions, switching out orange for neon pink, and we’re both thrilled with the results.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the finished product, and to see how we’re thinking of styling it.

Perhaps it’s an extension of my recent acquisition of cake stands and various other baking-oriented display props, but I’m really loving these glass domes, as used in this table stying for the ‘Decorate’ book launch at Liberty.

Time to get creative.

Brights and mixed metals, a pretty perfect complement, if you ask me. We’ve received two new shipments of gorgeous dresses from Charlie Jade and Lavand, new pieces from Lauren Elan Collections, and our first delivery of Butter London nail polish. And what better way to share a few of of the goodies than with a few outfit shots?

I’m mildly obsessed with the new Lauren Elan pieces, from the ‘City’ Collection, with their versatility, layering potential, and heavy chain mixed with the always essential sparkle. I’ve already put in my order for Miss ‘Adelaide’, and I can’t wait to add her to the daily rotation.

Charlie Jade neon print silk dress ($148). Loving the brights, especially contrasting with mixed metal chains.

Lauren Elan 'Adelaide' Necklace ($165). Multiple chains in various mixed metals.

And she can be worn long as well! We always love versatility.

The detachable magic clasp that allows you to wear it short or long.

Another bold and bright number from Charlie Jade ($148). Neon with neutral, always a favourite mix.

Jacob and Jonnie, layered together for another mixed metal ensemble.

Jonnie ($110). Deep gold tone chain and smoky crystal.

Jacob ($110). Gunmetal chain and clear, sparkling crystal.

It’s come to my attention that in yesterday’s BlogTO article, there were a few people who were wishing there were pictures of the specific items Robyn was talking about in the write-up, especially the One Teaspoon dress. So I thought I would take this opportunity to snap a few photos of the items and designers that were mentioned, as a sort of “companion” post to the article.

If there are any other requests for pieces or details you want to see, just ask, and I would be happy to share.

One Teaspoon Kiss of Death Dress. Hand sewn pearl bodice, and unfinished, tutu-esque skirt. Stunning.

Layered necklaces by Lauren Elan Collections. Mixed metals and dangling sparkle.

'Abbey' by Lauren Elan Collections, a Bicyclette favourite with its tangled composition and rock-meets-romance statement.

Hand-dyed silk scarf by DENJ, in the most vibrant colour combinations. The perfect way to infuse a little tie-dye brightness into any ensemble.

Last week I was finally able to take a look at the Motel Spring ’11 line for Bicyclette. Along with the standard skintight body-con dresses that the label has become known for (including neon metallics, which I decided to pass on), the collection had an obvious 70s bohemian vibe, with oversized florals, faded denim, pleating and easy knits.

Below are a few images from the look book, featuring a few (but not all) of the pieces that were bought for the shop, and some that were not, but that give you a sense of the overall feel of the Spring line.

Favourite piece? The slouchy, cropped, open-knit sweater. Bought in two colours.

On top of photo, styling and interior inspiration, I always have my eye out for graphic inspiration as well, whether it’s the simplest use of typography or a detailed layout. I really love using images and text together, allowing them to interact and tell a story, and I’m always drawn to hand-drawn elements or type. Case in point, the use of the sketched bicycle in the Bicyclette branding. When perusing Frassy, a style blog that is on my list of daily reads, I came across one post that really spoke to me, starting with the simple photos done in black-and-white with the 60s styling. What I really love though, is the way Audrey has incorporated personal quips and used simple fonts with a hand-drawn sensibility, allowing each layout to tell a story with a unique personality. Quirky at it’s finest.

Sneak peek from today’s shoot. Bicyclette is going retro, featuring one of the coveted Wildfox sweaters: Love Potion No. 9.

Special thanks to Shelby, Charlotte and Sarah- photo shoot team extraordinaire!

It’s here: the weekend of The Clothing Show! I’m finishing off the last minute preparations for the Bicyclette booth and getting ready to head down for set up.

The show is at the Better Living Center (Exhibition Place) and runs today, (Friday) 3-9 pm, Saturday 11 am – 8 pm and Sunday 11 am – 6 pm. And don’t forget, Bicyclette is in booth #525. Come visit!

There will be an assortment of summer stock as well as new Fall pieces, and everything is on sale, so there’s really no excuse. Not to mention all of the other amazing vendors that will be there as well.

See you there!

Ballerinas photographed  against the backdrop of New York City: how could it not be visually perfect?

The Ballerina Project grew from the idea of New York City as a magnet for creativity; each photograph is a collaborative work of dance, fashion design and photography played out against the city’s landscape.

I love the beauty of every shot, the unexpectedness, the juxtaposition of the dancers and the city scenes. I think every girl has wanted to be a ballerina at some point in her life. I know I have a tutu-esque skirt that I’ve been attempting to wear for awhile now. Maybe some day…

Take a look at the rest of the shots on Facebook or Artists Wanted. Enjoy.
