I came across these photos by Alexandra Valenti yesterday and instantly fell in love. I’ve been dreaming of the summer a lot lately and these photos capture an essence of a romantically vintage summer with a dash of bright surrealism that makes them extra special. Hope everyone is out enjoying the sun this week!

It’s been a beautiful few days and it looks like the sun is here to stay, finally. Pintrest is filling up with dreamy images of the summer that’s on it’s way and with a forecast of +20 for next week I’m excited to share a few. We’ve been playing feel good funk music all day long and enjoying our door being open to the bussling Queen W.

Happy Saturday!

This truly is a magical city. Since the first day I arrived I’ve been in awe of this city’s beauty. Every corner, every alley and every street has an irresistible charm. It’s as though the air is still filled with all of Monet’s colours, Chanel’s sketches and Edith Piaf’s voice. I have been filling my days with museums, long walks and lots of shopping. It’s a very inspiring place whether you are hunting through designer vintage stores, people watching at the Cafe de Flore, or looking at Rodin sculptures. I’ve enjoyed every moment thus far! Hate to cut it short but the sun is going down and I can hear the evening buzz beginning below my balcony. Enjoy the pictures, it’s a pretty easy place to shoot.

Emily

Last Thursday evening, Emily and I ordered a pizza, opened a bottle of red, turned up the Christmas music and put up our Holiday decorations at the shop. With 3 days of crafting already done, the process was relatively painless, and it was fun to give the shop a makeover infused with fairy lights, bright colours, sparkle, and lots of DIY’d projects based on our inspiration board. With this being our first (permanent) Christmas, we’re pretty excited to dive into the season and experience our first of many.

As is the custom, I wanted to share some photos that were taken that night and give you a little peek into the shop right now. You can expect many more photos over the next while as we continue to add to displays and play with the various elements. Next up? The window, tomorrow!

Surprise deliveries are quite possibly the best kind, especially when they arrive on Friday and contain goodies from Ban.do and Banter Banner, with lots of bright colours and sparkly textures. There’s no better way to end the work week and welcome the weekend than with hot pink and sequins! We decided to take this opportunity to start making over the store little by little, focusing today on the vanity area, which will be the first of many display changes. With the Holiday season around the corner, you can expect lots of magic happening at Bicyclette in the near future!

When we totally revamp a display, we always start with a completely blank canvas (0r in this case, tabletop), building up and slowly adding various props and pieces until we’re happy with the whole set up. So for this post, we decided to photograph it in the same way, so you can see the process from start to finish.

Our counter was literally covered with all of the new items that we wanted to display. Beautiful chaos!

A naked table, ready to be dressed up and accessorized.

We started with the 'Good Times' banner and a mix of pom poms to frame the area.

Strategically placing items. It's an art, really.

Lots of hot pink accents and a focus on headwear from Ban.do, with a healthy dose of bows, hearts, gold and sequins thrown into the mix.

The gold banner, in all it's glory. (Ps. The banners are only $10 and we have 6 options - a steal and a perfect gift!)

Brightly coloured rosettes ('Wild At Heart' + 'Unforgettable'), and more headbands in our favourite hot pink suitcase.

Gold sequins, delicate metallic lace + hot pink rhinestones.

Gold leather turban + more rosette options.

Pom poms, gold safari animals + hints of sparkle.

Ban.do's signature sequins hearts, perfect on a lapel, scarf, or in your hair.

Gold 'love' barrettes.

Sequin scarf turban and our lovely Tocca lineup.

Can't go wrong with red + pink sequins hearts, the perfect accessory.

Sequin hair clips in a gold or multicoloured variety.

Our favourite banner, 'Magic Surrounds', perfectly offset by the brick wall.

Continuing with this week’s focus on new products and gift ideas, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be bringing Ban.do to the shop in the next little while, which we believe is a pretty perfect match with Bicyclette. Full of whimsy and feminine charm, with a healthy dose of colour and sparkle, Ban.do offers a selection of hair accessories and other fun pieces that make a statement and guarantee you’ll stand out from the crowd.

We can’t wait to add start styling with these pretty new pieces!

Whether or not you are ready for it, Fall is on its way (and we couldn’t be more excited)! Although we have a few more weeks of sundress-wearing weather to enjoy, it’s never too early to begin planning for the next season. We have received some our first fabulous Fall pieces at Bicyclette, and they will be arriving in our online shop tomorrow!  Until then, here is a sneak peek of what to expect:

If you don’t already read the Glitter Guide, you really should. As the name suggests, it’s full of glittery goodness, not to mention inspiring articles and features, and a healthy dose of eye candy. I was thrilled to be asked to be part of their ‘Shop Talk’ feature, where I was interviewed about Bicyclette and had the chance to dress up for a shoot with Sian Melton within the shop. Though it’s always a little weird for me to be on the other side of the camera, the images are gorgeous and I couldn’t be happier to share the results, which offer a peek into the shop and some of our most glittery details.

Below are some of my favourite photos from the shoot, some of which appeared on the Glitter Guide and a few that haven’t been seen before. I’m thinking I’ll put them all in a Facebook album eventually, so make sure to take a peek soon if you want to see more.

It’s no secret that friendship bracelets are the accessory du jour this summer, and after hosting our own arm parties last week on the blog, Emma and I decided we needed a few more additions, and what better way to than by making our own? Two afternoons later, and we’ve made countless wrapped bracelets in a number of different combinations. We followed the instructions on Honestly WTF (the queens of DIY) and couldn’t be happier with the results.

Since our summer clothing sale is still in full swing, we’ve paired our new creations with a few of our favourite pieces, and included the sale prices for easy calculation. We have a few of the bracelets for sale in the shop, and will be adding more once we stock up on supplies.

Today’s outfit post is an accessory focused one, since we’ve been receiving what feels like an endless supply of locally designed and made pieces in the past couple of weeks from Oh Dina!, Scout & Catalogue, Little Fille and Sui Generis. We’re kind of in heaven. So instead of putting together a full, head-to-toe outfit, we decided to style a few different pieces in various colour groupings, showcasing a few of our favourites and abiding by the rule that you can never have too many accessories.

New 'Super Lemon' silk blouse from Equipment, and an array of brightly coloured accessories, including the 'Unicorn Hide' pouch. Summer perfection.

Pink for nails and lips, and a tangle of mixed metal and blue bracelets from Lauren Elan

Heart shaped sunnies, a bright lace bralette and my (personal) favourite from Oh Dina!, with hot pink, turquoise, gold and pearl.

A more muted palette of blush, cream and various textures. Love the La Dama pouch, with the lace overlay, and the pearl accents.

Pearl and gunmetal bib necklace, with an ivory fascinator.

One of our gorgeous new vintage flower crowns, with a selection of accessories

Black and white with an abundance of pattern and a hint of antique gold

The black rubber and brass cuff from Biko is a favourite layering piece

The graphic bow headband from Little Fille is perfect paired a tie dye pouch
