With the new collection of Butter London arriving earlier this week, and some new bracelet options starting to trickle in, we decided to repeat our arm party feature from the summer and load up our wrists for a little accessorizing fiesta. So with a mixture of new options and old favourites, voila!

We’re in the midst of buying for Summer ’12 and getting ready to start with Fall, which is always something we look forward to. Searching for new lines, getting our first look at favourite collections and starting to piece together what the overall feel will be at the boutique for that particular season.

One of my appointments this morning was for La La Land, a line from LA that I immediately fell in love with. Perfectly simple silhouettes with fun animal prints? Sign us up.

Here are a few photos from our favourite bombshell, Brigitte Bardot. With eyes full of curiosity, playfulness and sadness, her complex beauty is a big inspiration at Bicyclette.

Indulging our love for pastels once again, Wildfox’s Spring collection for the White Label is cleverly named ‘Pony Tale’ and filled with airy knits, whimsical prints and a pale palette.

“… we might not be able to play with Barbies and Rainbow Brite, or create fantasy worlds in plastic castles on the floor, but we can do all those grown up things we dreamed of when we were little girls.

We can wear a lavender mini dress with flouncy sleeves and sparkling stars, we can kiss boys and run down the beach at night, we can fall asleep on the sofa with all our girlfriends watching 80′s movies, we can wear high heels and have wild adventures and, if we want, we can see the world.

The things we lose are not really lost, they shaped us growing up and still exist as fairy tales waiting to come true.”

I think it’s safe to say that there were two things in 2011 that we developed slightly unhealthy addictions to: neon and nails, and it looks like both of these will continue this year. No complaints there, especially with the new Butter London collection that just launched. Founding Creative Director Nonie Creme sums up the collection perfectly as “pops of neon colour, tempered by sherbet pastels and cool neutrals”. Basically, what our dreams are made of.

Needless to say, we’ll be stocking all of the colours, but we’re curious which shade you’re most excited to wear this Spring? I’m finding it hard to pick just one, but I’m pretty intrigued by the pale ‘Bossy Boots’.

We love our sparkle here at Bicyclette, so we decided to top up our jewellery and accessories with some new pieces as we wait for our SS12 deliveries. Lots of glittery goodness and bright colours, with so much styling potential. The perfect way to get creative with your current wardrobe and add a little flair.

It’s about that time when we start getting excited for upcoming SS12 collections, and of course whenever possible, sharing the lookbooks with you. One of our favourite LA lines, For Love & Lemons (first introduced here) just released theirs, entitled ‘Day Tripper’, and inspired by 70′s rock muses and vintage thrillers.

“The Spring 2012 collection ‘Day Tripper’ is a story of a girl who’s traveling with a band, as rockstar’s muse. She is free-spirited, lovely, vulnerable and in love with the thrill. Documenting her time on the road through Polaroid pictures and concert ticket stubs, she will never forget the spring of romance, parties, and good times.”

Sounds pretty perfect, if you ask me.

We’re always excited to bring in new lines, and LA brand Lauren Moshi is no exception. With it’s original prints and incredibly luxe fabrics, it fits in perfectly with the rest of the Bicyclette mix. The simple, comfortable silhouettes and gorgeous hand drawn illustrations mix what we love best and is destined to become a casual favourite.

“Lauren Moshi creates unique pieces that are meticulously crafted in limited quantities. Every mark, every line on every piece is hand drawn by Lauren. Each garment is an original piece of artwork.”

After many hours planning, shooting and editing we’re excited to present you with our first annual Holiday Gift Guide! We’ve chosen some of our favourite pieces in the shop that we believe would make perfect gifts, focusing especially on our local designers, and laid them out in a fun spread to make composing a wishlist and shopping for that special someone that much easier for you. And because we’re still receiving new items that weren’t able to meet the deadline for the guide, we’ll be posting additional items on the blog, Twitter and Facebook for the next few weeks as well.

Last week I linked to a post on A Beautiful Mess about supporting small businesses, and it really spoke to me, both as a consumer and a retailer. It’s so important to support local and independent businesses and designers, especially at this time of year, which is one of the reasons we wanted to put together this guide and really showcase our local designers, which has always been an important element of Bicyclette. It’s not easy being “the little guy”, so the more we can collaborate and work together with those in our community, the better.

And with that, I present to you the 2011 Holiday Gift Guide! (If you click on the images, they’ll appear bigger in a new window)

If you’d like a digital copy of the Holiday Gift Guide, email paige(at)shopbicyclette.ca and we’ll have one sent right over!

When I was at school for Fashion Communication at Ryerson, one of the mandatory classes we were required to take every year was a fashion illustration class, and it was one of the classes I always dreaded. I wasn’t very good, being more of a technical designer and finding it hard to take a more freehanded approach to illustration and find my personal style. That being said, I’ve always loved fashion illustration, and find myself drawn to artists that capture that whimsical style and are able to tell a story through their work. My fellow Ryerson grad and good friend Alex Perlin is one such designer, and I’ve loved watching her style evolve over the past few years and am constantly impressed by her talent and skill. Which is one of the reasons why I’m so excited to announce that we’re now carrying Alex’s Fashion Holiday Cards and Agendas at the shop! We’re all about supporting local talent this Holiday season, and Alex’s pieces are the perfect way to finish off any gift.

Alex recently started using Instagram to share her process work with her followers and, much to our excitement, has begun adding a sprinkle of glitter to a selection of her Holiday cards. Being that these are two of our recent obsessions at Bicyclette, we thought we’d share a little peek at some of her work before we post the actual products that are now for sale. Think of it as a glittery pre-introduction.
