DAILY INSPIRATION . HEART ON YOUR SLEEVE

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and if anything, we’re using it as the perfect excuse to add a dash of sparkle and an extra heart or too into our lives. We styled a new window on Friday (which we’ll share soon) and are shooting another mini lookbook this week, so we’re currently all about gathering worthy inspiration.

Ban.do‘s lookbook is pretty much perfect, which is fitting considering their dedication to all things feminine and whimsical and the heart motif that finds itself on many of their pieces.

As all of you know we love our Wildfox here at Bicyclette so there is no surprise in picking Wildfox co-creator Kimberley Gordon as our muse this week. She is an artist, photographer, designer, dreamer and daily inspiration for us as she has such unique perspective on the world around her. Her blog ilovewildfox is dedicated to inspiring other artists ’create, learn, photograph, paint, design, party, dress up, and be happy’. When you are having one of those days, her blogs constant supply of images and ideas can be just what you need to put a little pep in your step. Plus she is responsible for all of our favourite and most comfortable t-shirts and for that we cannot adore her enough!

As I’m sure you noticed, spring is already very much on our minds here at Bicyclette HQ, and we’ve been planning outfits and awaiting new arrivals for weeks now. But inspired by a post on the Free People blog today, our minds have turned to shop displays, and we’ve started brainstorming spring DIYs to transform our space. All it takes is the prospect of a little floral crafting to get us excited, as you can see. Between this post and a few other collection images, I’m starting to love the idea of random, pretty clusters “climbing” the walls.

DAILY INSPIRATION . LIGHT LAYERS

This is probably one of the most difficult times of year to dress for, when winter is still upon us and yet Spring collections start to trickle in and tease us with their fresh colours and silhouettes. We start to tire of what’s already in our wardrobe and are uninspired by the prospect of countless layers and the more functional necessities that the colder temperatures call for. It can be a good challenge though, taking what you already have in your closet and mixing in newer pieces.

I’ve always had a soft spot for neutral palettes of ivories and greys, and when you add subtle textures, varying fabrics and key accessories, it can be a great way to layer without adding too much bulk. I love this editorial for exactly that reason, and how they’ve created winter-ready outfits with pieces that could transition into warmer months as well.

After posting about Brigitte Bardot last week we’ve decided to add a regular ‘Monday Muse’ post each week to celebrate women who inspire us. Who better to start off this tradition than the wonderful Jackie Kennedy! She effortlessly mixes her innate grace and beauty with daring and fun pieces that are now both iconic and celebrated worldwide. Most famously she is known for her strawberry pink Chanel suit, the one she wore on the day of her husbands death, which is now regarded as one of the most legendary articles of clothing in America history. One of the most inspiring things about this lovely lady is the way she embodies her femininity in such a strong and courageous way. “I am a woman above everything else.” -Jackie Kennedy

When the temperatures drop and we’re forced to bundle up, there’s nothing like a bright lip and fun accessories to keep us stylish and warm while we battle the elements.

Keiko Lynn provided us with a little inspiration to do just that, rocking a gorgeous velvet headband from Little Fille (of which we have a few options in the shop) and a hot pink lip (one of our favourite shades, surprise surprise). A pretty perfect pairing to beat these winter blues, if you ask me.

LEOPARD VS. FLORAL .

Leopard and floral are definitely our two favourite prints of the year! We’ve decided to put them up against each other to see who comes out on top! We love our feminine and whimsical floral prints, especially when contrasted with dark leather or chunky accessories but we also love our leopard to add a fun punch to every outfit whether it’s a scarf for a day of shopping or a mini dress for a night out on the town. This may be a cruel and impossible decision for some to make but we want to know which is your favourite? Can you choose?
