We’re shooting our May lookbook tomorrow night, so I thought I would share a little bit of inspiration that I’ve gathered. The concept started with a dollhouse that I found at Value Village a few weeks ago that was begging for a fresh coat of paint, and has evolved to include candy-hued wigs, monochromatic pastels and black and white polka dots. Needless to say, we’re pretty excited about this one.

As I come across hundreds of fashion images online daily I am always so easily drawn to photos of the simplistically chic Gwyneth Paltrow. She exemplifies how to wear beautiful basics and strikingly simple shapes to accessorize natural beauty and confidence. Her classic femininity and easy going style make her a refreshingly honest fashion icon worldwide.

When searching for styling inspiration, one of my favourite ways to put together an outfit is by taking a street style shot, picking out the key elements that give the look that certain je ne sais quoi, and then using those to inspire my own ensemble. For today’s outfit post, that’s exactly what we did, incorporating some brand new pieces from Maison Scotch (star tank, sunglasses tee) and Ladakh (sequin skirt) to bring in those key elements in a different way.

I’m surprised I have been able to hold out this long without having Mary-Kate and Ashley up as our Monday Muse(s), as they are always the first to pop into my head as my weeks biggest inspiration. Is that sad? I’m sure many of you feel the same connection with these two fashionistas who have been influencing my style since I was 6 years old! Literally growing up in front of the camera, their evolution from children stars to successful business women is truly inspirational. Whether they are running for coffee in New York, sitting front row at Paris Fashion week, or posing on the red carpet, I can’t get enough of their eclectic and unique style that sets them apart from the rest of the pack.

If you’ve been following us for awhile, you know that at Bicyclette, we can’t resist a good arm party. There’s something about styling the perfect mix of bangles and bracelets that can make an outfit. Whether it’s mixed metals, bright colours, simple or statement-making, there are so many options and it’s always fun to play around with different combinations. With a delivery arriving next week that is full of bracelet options in every style and colour, we figured this was the perfect time to pull some inspiration for our summer arm parties.

MONDAY MUSE . MISS JAMES

After she spilt the beans last week that she is pregnant with her fourth child, we decided it was an appropriate week to have the beautiful Miss James as our Monday Muse and introduce her inspiring blog, bluebird, to those of you who don’t follow it…yet. No moment goes unnoticed with her as her creative eye captures the tiny and imperfect moments that make each day special. Her blog is a gorgeous collection of photography, inspiration and insight into being a mother, wife, texan and fun-haver. With her vintage style and aesthetic everything from her kitchen table settings to her wedding decor to her stylishly outfitted children are always flawlessly unique. We are always talking about the bleubird family around here and would like to wish James a safe and happy pregnancy.

Even though Bicyclette doesn’t technically have an office or studio space (most of the magic happens in the shop, perched behind the counter), some of my favourite spaces to draw inspiration from are creative offices and workspaces. There’s definitely something to be said for creating a space that inspires innovation and creative thinking, and we believe that a mood board in some form is always a necessity.

The four granddaughters of Jacques Courtin-Clarins, founder of the Clarins skincare company, these beauties have been popping up in the front tow at fashion week and on street-style blogs alike, flaunting their eclectic ensembles and proving that personal style is all about being unique and having fun with fashion. The two sets of sisters, often appearing as a group or in pairs, have a tendency towards bold pairings and bright colours, and do not shy away from a loud print or interestingly layered pieced. We love how they mix high-end with a downtown edge, and give current trends their own, individual spin.

DAILY INSPIRATION . THE NEON BELT

A few months ago we posted about the neon skinny belts that we were about to receive, and how excited we were to start layering them over our chunky knits and ease into transitional dressing with a pop of colour. Now, with warmer weather upon us and summer styles on our radar, we’re dreaming up new ways to wear our neon and fully embracing the styling potential. Colourblocked with other brights, with a denim-on-denim ensemble, breaking up an all black outfit, or with a printed dress (and a healthy dose of sunshine), the options are endless!
